Your First Dialysis Treatment: What to Expect

When you check-in on your first day of treatment there will be several consent forms for you to sign, including consent for dialysis treatments. These must be complete before your dialysis can be initiated. Once checked in, you will receive a patient manual and orientation to the unit, as well as the opportunity to ask any questions. It is important to the staff that you understand, and are comfortable with, the dialysis process.

A typical treatment prescription is three times a week for four hours. Your doctor will prescribe a treatment time and frequency for your specific needs. Once you have been admitted to our facility, you will have an assigned station and time. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your treatment time to assure you have ample time to check-in.

We encourage you to bring a blanket, reading materials or other items that will aid in your comfort and help you pass the treatment time. Each station has an individual television and the unit provides laptop computers with Internet access for patient use.
